The SHERO Group: (Sustaining Higher Education through Research and Outreach), a non-profit organization that exists to promote the success of women of color in all fields of endeavor through higher education, professional consultation, research, coaching, mentoring, leadership development, and educational training.
Dr. Saylor is very passionate about leadership development and empowerment initiatives for women. Her experience with these initiatives include serving on the Board of Directors for the Oasis Center for Women and Girls; NOLA4Women; the Tallahassee/Leon County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls- Sexual Assault Policy Group; and the Student Life Co-Chair of the Ursuline Academy of New Orleans Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Taskforce. Dr. Saylor is also a proud alumna of the Alice Manicur Symposium for Women Leaders in Student Affairs, and the Higher Education Resource Service (HERS) Institute.
Dr. Saylor is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and Rotary International.
Dr. Saylor presently serves as a university administrator promoting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Her career in higher education demonstrates diversity of experiences in both academic and student affairs at various institutions. These experiences include Vice President for Student Affairs, Assistant Vice President for Student Success, Director of Student Affairs, Coordinator for Academic Support within the School of Undergraduate Studies, and Assistant Professor/Undergraduate Program Director.
Throughout her career in higher education, she has actively and successfully served on numerous institutional committees that addressed diversity and inclusion, equal opportunity, accreditation, policies, personnel, student services, revenue and stewardship, retention, enrollment, and academics/scholarship.
Her well-rounded experience in higher education and the non-profit sector, gives her the strong foundation to serve as a cross functional leader; develop JEDI programs and initiatives; provide an organizational perspective to support senior leaders; and work closely with partners, donors, and other external stakeholders. Additionally, her formal training and professional experience as a counselor and coach gives her the temperament, communication skills, and relationship building strength needed to provide effective executive support.
Dr. Danette G. Saylor is an experienced manager and administrator with over 25 years of experience in higher education. She has been committed to creating an inclusive and supportive community for creating an inclusive and supportive community for the persons that she serve. As an experienced senior level administrator, with proven success in multi-unit management, post-secondary education, person-centered/data-driven initiatives, and complex problem solving she is well equipped to help organizations and teams reach their full potential.
Utilizing an action research approach, we offer full assessment services to help institutions make data informed decisions and find workable solutions.
The Nyota Institute, is a leadership development program for high school seniors designed to inspire young women to envision themselves and their lives beyond traditional societal expectations; to empower them to build their capacity as global leaders; and to transform them into leaders of intellectual, entrepreneurial, and social innovation. Graduates of the Nyota Institute are entitled to join an elite group of women known as the Nyota Circle, where additional opportunities for mentoring, networking, and professional development are provided.
The Nyota Academy, is a college preparation and mentoring program for high school sophomores and juniors. The program offers educational components of public speaking, essay writing, test-taking and study strategies, college application assistance, financial literacy, and career exploration. Dates and application for the 2024-2025 year are forthcoming.
Strong Start Scholarships are need-based funds for students to cover college expenses such as application fees, new student orientation fees, campus housing deposits, uniforms, and textbook purchases. These expenses, while seemingly simple, can sometimes be the cause for a student to not start college on time or not at all. The 2024-2025 Strong Start Scholarship Application Form is forthcoming. Applications will be accepted until all allocations for the year are completed.
The SHE ROSE Signature Series is a series of two annual events recognizing the accomplishments of women on-the-rise, to support the launch or entrepreneurial debut of their new social innovation, educational initiative, or great idea!

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Media & Promotional Materials Internship
The SHERO Group is recruiting journalism, graphic arts, and/or multimedia students to conceptualize, develop, and produce instructional, promotional, and training materials.
Internships are usually unpaid. However, some compensation may be provided if funds are available. Unpaid interns are eligible to receive volunteer hours for their services.
Outreach Services Internship
The SHERO Group offers an internship program for students interested in the higher education and leadership development. Ideal interns are upper division or graduate students in psychology, counseling, higher education, special education, human services, or other related majors.
Internships are usually unpaid. However, some compensation may be provided if funds are available. Unpaid interns are eligible to receive volunteer hours for their services.
